When the power goes out, you can easily open your garage door manually by disconnecting it from the automated opener mechanism.
Important Safety Check: Make sure the garage door is fully closed before you start. If the door is stuck halfway open, pulling the release cord can cause the heavy door to crash down violently.

Here is how to safely open it from the inside:
- Unplug the opener: Safety First.
Unplug the automatic opener unit from its outlet. This ensures it won't suddenly turn back on and jerk the door if the power unexpectedly returns while you are handling it.
2. Pull the red emergency cord: Disconnect the Motor.
Locate the red hanging rope attached to the central rail mechanism. Pull the red handle firmly straight down (or down and slightly toward the opener motor body, depending on your brand). You will hear or feel the spring-loaded lever click open, releasing the door from the automated carriage.
3. Lift the door manually: Lift from the Base.
Go to the center of the door and lift it straight up from the bottom panels. If your garage door springs are properly balanced, the door should lift relatively smoothly and stay open on its own.
4. Close and lock the door: Securing the Space.
When you pull the door back down, keep in mind that the automatic motor is still disconnected
—meaning anyone can lift it open from the outside. Manually slide the physical metal lock bar across the side of your garage door track to keep it secure until power returns. HINT: If no lock bar, block one side of the roller track at the bottom with a C-clamp or similar device. Be sure to remove it before opening the door so it does not jam retracting operation after power is restored.
Reconnecting the Power Later
When the power comes back on, you can snap the door back onto the automated track. Make sure the manual side-lock is completely disengaged first, pull the red cord up and forward toward the garage opening to reset the lever, and then press your standard remote button. The motor will move the carriage until it automatically clicks and locks back into the door frame.
