Based on BCS367 strata bylaws, residents are allowed to plant flowers (annuals and bulbs) in their gardens, provided they do not exceed a height of 24 inches.

Additionally, the bylaws outline a few strict rules regarding plants and landscaping:

  • Prohibited Plantings: No plantings that attach themselves to the building areas (such as ivy) are permitted.
  • Approval Required: Any plants or landscaping alterations that exceed 24 inches in height, or change the level of the ground, type of plants, or landscaping features between the front lawn and the fence line of Noel Drive, Cameron Street, or Beaverbrook Drive, require prior written approval from the Strata Council (and the City of Burnaby where applicable).
  • Maintenance: Residents take full financial responsibility for their plantings and any associated extra maintenance costs. Dead plants must be removed immediately from patios and balconies.

The specific section quoted regarding garden plantings is Section 10, Subsection (6).

The rules regarding other restrictions, heights, and ivy mentioned earlier come from Section 10 (Subsections 3, 4, and 6) as well as Section 5 (Subsection 1) for the balcony maintenance.
